My top 10 foods for glowing, youthful skin

The older I get the more I appreciate the radiant beauty that comes from glowing, youthful-looking skin. I am talking about naturally glowing, youthful skin though. I am not a big fan of using unnatural fillers or plumping agents or of overstretching one’s precious skin to get rid of wrinkles. To me any of these treatments come with the high price of losing your own, very innate and so special “SHINE”!

However, I am always up for some “shine” support by some of my most appreciated natural helpers. Here are my favourite 10 foods that will boost your skin health, its gorgeous glow and enhance its youthful smoothness.

Nourish your skin with:

  1. Grapes

They are rich in the antioxidant vitamin C which will boost your collagen production and provide you with a gorgeous youthful glow. In addition, they are a great source of silicon, a mineral which helps fight wrinkles and premature ageing of your skin. Grapes also contain large amounts of flavonoids which protects your skin from harmful ultraviolet light of the sun.

  1. Apple cider vinegar

It will help to cleanse and boost your digestive health and give you blemish-free skin by helping your body to get rid of accumulated toxic, pimple-producing waste.

  1. Avocados

They contain important fats which will moisturise your skin from the inside out and leave it feeling soft and supple. In addition, avocados are rich in the skin-nurturing beauty vitamins A, C, E and K and the antioxidizing, rejuvenating minerals copper, potassium and iron

  1. Pears

They are categorized as a high-fibre food, most of which being insoluble fibre, which aids cleansing out the colon of toxic waste before all this junk can leave little or deeper lines on your face. Moreover, they are rich in the antioxidants C, E, some B vitamins, vitamin K and their skin contains a powerful mix of the skin-beautifying and strengthening minerals copper, potassium, magnesium, selenium, manganese, and calcium.

  1. Sweet potatoes

They are rich in the skin-brightening vitamins A and C which will change a dull complexion into a gorgeously radiant one. In addition, they are potent antioxidants that combat free radicals, thus slowing down your ageing process.  Like grapes they are also shown to naturally protect your skin against damaging UV rays of the sun.

  1. Cucumber

It is made of 95% enzyme-rich water and thus has highly hydrating, cooling and soothing properties for dry, hot or inflamed skin. It is high in silicon and anti-inflammatory vitamin C which makes your skin more resilient and stimulates tightening collagen production.

  1. Cabbage

It is rich in the potent anti-ageing vitamins A and C which will help to slow down ageing of your skin and keep it looking youthful for longer. In addition, cabbage is a member of the cruciferous vegetables containing detoxifying sulfur.  They are known to be particularly potent in the fight against free radicals and are great for wound-healing.

  1. Almonds

They are a fantastic source of the wonderful skin nourishing and moisturising antioxidant vitamin E, making your skin smooth and adding more glow to it. It also protects your skin from oxidative damage and in doing so fighting signs of ageing.

  1. Kale

It is your nutritional skin-power house containing all the vitamins and minerals you need for radiant, gorgeous skin: Vitamin C, to boost collagen production and fight free-radical damage; vitamin A to up your glow by stimulating healthy cell growth while protecting against damage from the sun; vitamin K which has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and skin-loving copper which plays an important role in wound-healing and controlling inflammation.

  1. Turmeric

It is your magic spice of a healthy, youthful life and skin. The active compound curcumin that is found in turmeric is a great blood purifier and thus aids with liver and kidney detoxification. It contains very potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which fight free radical formation and stimulate new cell formation. This golden, orange-deep-yellowish spice really is your best friend when it comes to counteracting the effects of ageing, keeping your skin beautifully firm and elastic.

I so love how food can be so much more than simply providing us with energy. How it can beautify us, help us defy the process of premature ageing and leave us feeling empowered and radiant. I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait to cook up a healthy storm with all of those delicious foods that will naturally help me looking and feeling my best self with a smooth, glowing complexion.

PS: Stay tuned, I will provide you with a glowing skin menu plan next week.
