Beautifying Chai Chocolate Porridge

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of rolled or steel-cut oats
  • At least 1 cup of unsweetened almond mylk (I like my porridge very creamy, so I like adding more mylk)
  • 1 TBSP of raw cacao powder
  • 1 tsp of turmeric, ground
  • 1 tsp of pure vanilla bean, ground
  • ½ tsp of cinnamon
  • Pinch of clove, ground (optional but clove has insanely high antioxidant properties, more than most other foods)
  • Pinch of nutmeg, ground
  • ¼ tsp of ginger, ground or small piece of fresh ginger, grated
  • Pinch of black pepper, ground
  • 1 small to medium ripe banana or ½ of ripe banana and ½ tsp of rice malt syrup
  • 2 TBSP of black chia seeds
  • Optional: 1 tsp of maca powder
  • Optional: 1 scoop of collagen powder, preferably unsweetened
  • Mixed berries
  • Optional: sprinkle with handful of nuts of your choice such as almonds, walnuts, and brazil nuts

Method:

  1. In a small saucepan combine your oats, mylk, spices and rice malt syrup if using and simmer on low heat with closed lid stirring frequently until most the mylk has been absorbed by the oats. Consistency should be creamy, not too dense, so you can still mix with the rest of the ingredients. Depending on your stove, this takes 5-8 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile mash your banana, if using, and put into porridge bowl.
  3. Add your chia seeds to the banana, mix well and then set aside.
  4. Take your porridge from the heat and fill into your prepared bowl. Add your maca and collagen powder if using, and combine well with your mashed banana-chia seed mixture.
  5. Add your choice of berries and stir through lightly.
  6. Sprinkle with your favourite nuts and enjoy!!!
